KAI Global School's International Model

KAI Global School Objectives for Offering the OSSD

KAI Global School’s International Model was designed with a unique partnership model between KAI Global School and International Partner School to provide customized education that focuses on developing transformative skills.

The KAI Global School Program is part of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), and our well-developed curriculum, combined with our Differentiated Approach to Learning, includes the essential resources to guide our teachers in international partner schools. Our curriculum offers the tools and support necessary for students to meet their optimal learning challenges in an ever-changing world.

Our Differentiated Approach to Learning follows the Growing Success model of Assessment & Evaluation, encompassing learning skills and work habits, connecting with Real-World issues, personalized teaching and assessment styles, customized pathways, and worldly life skills. We deliver high-quality educational content to assist our international partner schools in efficiently implementing our program while embracing their local educational expertise. This approach aids in the transformation of our students and fosters the early development of learning skills and work habits crucial for success in both school and life. As students progress through the grades, they refine and solidify these skills and habits in preparation for postsecondary education and the professional world (Growing Success, 2010).

At KAI Global School, we offer a student-centered education within a blended learning environment. Our committed teachers and support staff prioritize creating a safe, meaningful, and valued space for our students. We instill qualities of curiosity, confidence, resilience, and independence in our students by fostering a stimulating atmosphere that encourages risk-taking and the expression of their ideas.

KAI Global School provides students with a flexible registration process, allowing for continuous intake. We offer a self-paced learning model for fully online students, enabling them to work at their own speed. For blended learning day students, we implement a closely monitored and structured approach to ensure their academic progress.

KAI Global School follows the curriculum established by the Ontario Ministry of Education and abides by the principles and policies detailed in "Growing Success: Assessment & Evaluation, & Reporting in Ontario Schools" to enhance student learning. Given the online nature of our courses, we have the flexibility to further enrich the curriculum, fostering student engagement, encouraging interaction, and tailoring activities to cater to the diverse needs of all learners.

OSSD Graduation Requirements

Students have to meet the following three requirements to graduate from KAI Global School with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

Students are required to accumulate a total of 30 credits from Grades 9 to 12, consisting of:

  • 18 compulsory credits, obtained in subjects like English, Mathematics, Science, Secondary Language, History, Geography, Civics and Career Studies, Art, and Physical Education.
  • 12 optional credits, earned from a selection of courses offered by the school.

For each completed course, students earn 1 credit. To qualify for the credit, the student must achieve a minimum average of 50% in the course.

KAI Global School also provides Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) for students admitted after Grade 9. This process awards students equivalent OSSD credits based on their prior learning.

Every student is tasked with sourcing, coordinating, and fulfilling a minimum of 40 hours of Community Involvement Activities. This mandate aims to foster students’ comprehension of the diverse roles they assume in their community and to cultivate a stronger sense of belonging within it.

The mandatory hours vary based on the grade at which a student joins KAI Global School. The school equips international partner schools with the necessary guidance to assist students in meeting these community involvement requirements.

Each student is required to fulfill the Provincial Literacy Requirement either by successfully passing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) or by completing the Ontario Literacy Credit Course (OLC4O). This prerequisite ensures that all students possess the fundamental skills in reading and writing necessary for success in school, work, and everyday life.

Under the guidance of the Ontario Ministry of Education, the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) administers the OSSLT annually. KAI Global School’s Head Office is responsible for registering all eligible students with the EQAO.

Grade 12 students who do not pass the OSSLT must enroll in an additional course, the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OLC4O), in order to fulfill the literacy requirement for graduation. Please note that an additional fee will be incurred. Students are only eligible to take the OLC4O if they have made an attempt at the OSSLT.

For students admitted to KAI global school after Grade 9, KAI global school offers Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR). This process is completed by KAI global school counselling team and involves the assessment of an entering student’s prior transcripts and the granting of equivalent OSSD credits. Through PLAR, students can receive credits based on what they’ve previously learned.

Academic Management

Students are awarded one credit for each Ontario course they successfully complete at KAI Global School (with the exception of Career and Civics which are valued at 0.5 credits each. To qualify for the credit, the student must attain a minimum average of 50% in the course. After the credit is earned, both the course and the grade will be recorded on the student’s Ontario Student Transcript.

In the KAI Global School Program, student progress is officially communicated through the Ontario report card, aligning with the official Ministry of Education templates. This report card assesses two key aspects of student achievement: meeting curriculum expectations and developing learning skills.

Midterm report cards are issued when students complete the initial 50% of a course. Each report card includes:

  • The student’s percentage grade in the course
  • The course median: the median grade of all KAI Global School students in the course
  • Credits earned: 1.00 for successful completion, 0.00 if the course is not completed successfully
  • Descriptive comments from the grading teacher: highlighting student strengths, areas for improvement, and suggested strategies for enhancement
  • Assessment of learning skills and work habits on a four-point scale: Responsibility, Organization, Independent Work, Collaboration, Initiative, and Self-regulation (E – Excellent, G – Good, S – Satisfactory, N – Needs Improvement)

In Ontario, grades are reported as percentages and defined as follows:

The evaluation of learning skills, apart from any that may be included as part of a course’s curriculum expectation, is the evaluation of learning skills Apart not considered in the determination of percentage grades.A credit is granted and recorded for each course in which the student’s grade is 50% or higher.

The Ontario Student Transcript is a provincially standardized document that provides a complete record of all Ontario secondary school credit courses taken. Any course completed successfully, withdrawn from or failed will appear on the student transcript along with the marks earned in each course. Transcripts can be requested at any time, and they can be sent to post-secondary institutions across Canada and worldwide. Learning Skills and Work Habits

The development of learning skills and work habits is an integral part of each student’s learning. The key learning skills and work habits evaluated and reported on include: responsibility, organization, independent work, collaboration, initiative, and self-regulation. Individuals who employ these skills can cultivate synthesis and analytical abilities, assess complex data, and apply this knowledge to address inquiries, generate creative approaches, present insightful arguments, and evaluate overarching concepts. This fosters critical thinking and prepares students for the future

KAI Global School has developed a carefully crafted program with a significant focus on cultivating Key Learning Skills and Work Habits. The impactful instruction and meaningful assessments are strategically designed to reinforce objectives that encourage problem-solving, decision-making, critical, and creative thinking.

At KAI Global School, comprehensive course lessons delineate the specific Key Learning Skills and Work Habits being nurtured at each stage. Additionally, tailored lesson plans are created to delineate activities and instructional approaches that facilitate the development of these skills, incorporating interactive prompts, discussion posts, and the provision of constructive feedback.

At KAI Global School, courses incorporate assessments that enable the measurement, recording, and reporting of Key Learning Skills and Work Habits for each student across various subjects throughout their learning journey.

Making connections with Real-World issues

Making connections with real-world issues is an educational method in which individuals engage in sharing solutions to a problem of concern to them or their community. Students learn and gain knowledge by taking measures to fully grasp the problem, researching from current sources, and applying their understanding to propose and communicate solutions. When making connections with real-world issues, individuals acquire rich, in-depth subject knowledge and use thinking skills practically.

At KAI Global School, connections with real-world issues are integrated into all courses of study, allowing students to unite their learning in different subjects and use student-centered thinking and innovative methodologies. This type of learning inspires students to identify and solve significant economic and social consequences and provides scenarios to further improve their high-order thinking skills.

Each individual possesses different strengths and learning styles, requiring a flexible approach in today’s globalized world. Understanding students’ strengths and needs empowers teachers to plan effective instruction and meaningful assessments. Throughout this course, teachers will consistently observe and assess students’ enthusiasm for learning, their interests, preferred learning styles, and individual learning requirements.

Through differentiated instructional approaches, teachers create successful learning experiences by tailoring instructions to each student’s unique needs.

In the customized KAI Global School Program, we recognize and value the uniqueness of each individual. We believe that every student can thrive in the program and achieve their highest potential through personalized teaching styles, scaffolding, and customized evaluation. Differentiated instruction is provided by offering diverse content, instructional strategies, and learning environments. Additionally, scaffolded evaluations provide students with opportunities to identify the work outputs that align with their strengths and the optimal way to demonstrate their learning.

Customized pathways empower students to take control of their learning process. It is a student-centered approach where students and teachers collaborate in alignment with core curriculum standards. In partnership with our international affiliate schools, we offer a diverse curriculum and learning options that allow students to select courses and experiences, creating their customized pathway. This approach focuses on their areas of interest and strength and promotes the skills necessary to meet their university objectives and career goals.

We encourage students to engage in strength-based learning. The OSSD university admission criteria also support our customized pathways by enabling students to choose courses that align with their strengths. With a personalized course pathway, students receive information, skills, and competencies to make informed choices and take control of their goals.

KAI Global School’s comprehensive curriculum is the foundation for instructional excellence and the success of students across our program. We aim to help students obtain their Ontario Secondary School Diploma, allowing them access to the best university and college programs in Ontario and the rest of Canada. KAI Global School is dedicated to providing top-tier education and ensures its teachers are well-prepared through comprehensive training. These hands-on programs allow teachers to practice engaging lessons, utilize effective evaluation methods, and provide constructive feedback. This equips them with the necessary tools and skills to implement the school’s specialized program. The institution also places great emphasis on maintaining academic integrity among students, teachers, and partner schools, employing a range of strategies to uphold this standard.

Make it clear to students what is expected of them in terms of honesty and integrity in the online learning environment. This might involve creating a code of conduct or a set of guidelines for academic behavior. Teachers review the code of conduct with all students and all students must take at least one webinar on Plagiarism the first month of school.

Plagiarism is a major concern in any academic setting, as it is easy for students to copy and paste content from the internet. To help prevent this, we  use plagiarism detection software to ensure the originality of students’ work. However, even before we get to the point of checking final work for plagiarism, we have students submit their rough draft to our tutoring platform for feedback and at this time we check for plagiarism and use it as a teaching tool to ensure students understand how to properly cite work

By using a variety of assessment methods, such as portfolios, seminars, essays, and projects, our educators can get a more well-rounded view of student learning and identify instances of academic dishonesty.

We create an open and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and seeking help when they need it. This can help to prevent students from turning to dishonest means in order to succeed.

By taking this approach, KAI Global School is able to ensure that all students, teachers, and partner schools maintain high standards of academic integrity.

KAI Global School is registered as an online school with the Ontario Ministry of Education. In our program, we offer a digital curriculum, central evaluation, academic administration, and student learning supports through our accredited digital learning platform. Additionally, students register through our international partner schools for classroom instruction, learning facilitation, and local student services with dedicated staff. This collaborative approach enhances student learning experiences and supports holistic student success.

We provide a series of training programs for teachers and administrators in our international partner schools to ensure the quality and integrity of program delivery. However, it’s important to note that this collaboration does not grant any partner institution the authority to issue OSSD credits. We do not own or affiliate with any campuses or schools overseas that offer our OSSD program. Our collaboration model and compliance are clearly communicated in all program materials. Furthermore, we have established Marketing Policies and detailed Marketing Guidelines to guide our international partner schools in marketing compliance.

KAI Global School aims to provide the Partner School with professional development opportunities for their teachers, such as workshops, seminars, and online courses, that promote cross-cultural understanding and global competencies. KAI Global School promotes cross-cultural understanding, exchange, and collaboration.

KAI Global School supports teacher development with rich instructional resources, empowering educators to successfully implement a differentiated curriculum with higher-order thinking skills in the classroom.

Each lesson in the KAI Global School curriculum offers a detailed lesson plan that was strategically crafted for that lesson. The lesson plans recommend instructional scenarios and corresponding advanced teaching strategies, providing detailed guidance to teachers in developing students’ higher-order thinking.

Supplemental teaching resources are also available for each lesson. These resources are tools for teachers, designed to enrich the student learning experience further, reinforce lesson concepts and support diverse learning needs.

The KAI Global School Learning Approach

The KAI Global School deeply researched learning approach to education involves creating learning experiences that are designed to encourage and support the process of profound personal change. This will be accomplished through a variety of methods, such as

Encouraging students to reflect on their own assumptions, beliefs, and values, and to question and challenge them, can be an important step in the transformative learning process.

Providing opportunities for students to reflect on their own experiences and the meaning they hold for them can help to facilitate transformative learning.

Engaging students in hands-on, experiential learning activities, such as internships, fieldwork, or service learning, can provide opportunities for personal growth and transformation.
